Permanent Committee Working Group 3 - Forth Circular

ASIA AND THE PACIFIC REGIONAL GEODETIC PROJECT (APRGP)

Working Group 3 - Regional Geodetic Networks Working Group

Permanent Committee on GIS Infrastructure for Asia and the Pacific Region

Dear Colleague

I have been advised that the reobservation of the GEODYSSEA network has been postponed to early in 1998 which may reduce the available GPS occupied sites participating in the APRGP 1997 project.

Consequently, some member countries and national agencies who currently do not have permanently operating GPS receivers have requested the inclusion of temporary GPS observations at their national key sites. National Agencies are still able to participate in the APRGP 1997 project by undertaking GPS observations at their national key sites during the one week GPS observation campaign from 0 hours UTC 12 October 1997 to 0 hours UTC 19 October 1997.

As part of the GPS campaign participants have notified the following GPS occupied sites in addition to those listed in Circular 3:

  1. China - 6 sites
  2. Indonesia - 3 sites
  3. Nepal - 4 sites
  4. Papua New Guinea - 1 or 2 sites

The Shanghai Observatory has advised that the following VLBI sites are participating in the APRGP 1997 project. The dates of the VLBI observations listed on the APRGP 1997 Project Plan attached to Circular 2 were incorrect. The correct VLBI observation dates are confirmed to be 6 and 20 October 1997.

To assist in comparison of vertical datums, it has been suggested that the occupied sites be connected to the orthometric height datum based on mean sea level. Please provide the orthometric height value for the sites if available and the local survey connection between the instrumentation at sites with collocated geodetic techniques.

To enable AUSLIG to commence distribution of the GPS data set to participating processing agencies on 1 December 1997, all GPS data needs to be supplied to AUSLIG by 10 November 1997.

Agencies with FTP capability are requested to submit the GPS RINEX data files to an FTP site at AUSLIG. The FTP site together with the user name and password will be advised in circular 5 to be distributed during the next week.
