for Asia
and the Pacific (PCGIAP)

Resolutions
1. Borneo GIS Infrastructure Project
The Committee
- Recognising the success of PCGIAP in establishing an overall geodetic framework of high accuracy positions within a global framework,
- Acknowledging the need to densify this network of global geodetic points for local applications,
- Recalling the Agenda 21 requirement for spatial data for sustainable development,
- Resolves that the unification of geodetic datums over Borneo be jointly undertaken by neighbouring countries in collaboration with ASEAN FLAG to provide the basic framework for a GIS infrastructure over the area for development of an environmentally focused GIS.
2. Pan Asia-Pacific Datasets
The Committee resolves to undertake the following work;
A) To build the pan Asia Pacific administrative boundary dataset using
the specification, already drafted by PCGIAP;
B) To examine options and priorities for building other pan Asia Pacific
datasets.
3. APSDI Portal
The Committee resolves,
A) To build an understanding of the concept of an APSDI Portal for regional
fundamental datasets;
B) To support the development of metadata nodes in the Asia-Pacific region;
C) To facilitate exchange of information on standards-compliant metadata
profiles to underpin APSDI Portal development.
4. Survey of worldwide impact assessment of clearinghouse
The Committee,
- Recognizing the work of Center for Geo-information, Wageningen University, the Netherlands on the Survey for the worldwide impact assessment of clearinghouses to GI society,
- Further recognizing the collaborative project between the Center for SDI and Land Administration Department of Geomatics, The University of Melbourne Australia and Wageningen University,
- Noting the benefit to PCGIAP member countries by being involved In the survey and receiving the results,
- Resolves that PCGIAP member countries participate in the Survey for the worldwide impact assessment of clearinghouses to GI society with the support of the PCGIAP Secretariat.
5. SDI Activity in CIS countries
The Committee,
- Taking into account;
- - the importance of national infrastructures of spatial data creation,
- - the desirability of state support of these works,
- - role of State Institutes of state power as the coordinator and one of
the main user of the spatial data
- Understanding that the creation of infrastructure of spatial data;
- - the importance of national infrastructures of spatial data creation,
- - the desirability of state support of these works,
- - role of State Institutes of state power as the coordinator and one of
the main user of the spatial data.
- Supports;
- - initiative of infrastructure of spatial data creation and development
in the Russian Federation;
- - concept of its creation and the program of work;
- - the program named “Creation and development of the Infrastructure of
spatial data in the Russian Federation”.
6. GSDI Association
The Committee,
- Noting the aim of PCGIAP to contribute to the global GII,
- Noting the Invitation by GSDI Association to join as a founding member,
- Noting the recognition of PCGIAP by GSDI Association as a regional coordination
group,
- Noting the offer of a place on the GSDI Association Board,
- Recognizing that PCGIAP does not have a source of funds to pay GSDI membership
fees,
- Resolves;
- - To apply to be a liaison member of the GSDI Association board;
- - To consider applying to be a member of the GSDI Association board in
the future.
